Danvers Residents to Honor the "nicest guy in rock and roll" with a Benefit Concert
Danvers residents knew the voice before millions of others did. And now many of them are paying tribute to the deceased former lead singer of the band Boston through a benefit concert which will be held to establish a scholarship in his name at his alma mater, Danvers High School.
The idea came to Danvers patrolman Dana Hagen one evening as he heard a Boston song played on the radio shortly after Brad Delp’s unfortunate passing. Delp was so genuine to so many people in town and he was one of Danvers’ finest, so why not do something?
Hagen quickly surrounded himself with a committee of volunteers, many of them graduating with Delp in the Danvers High Class of 1969. A venue was secured, tickets have been printed, and a website www.braddelp.org has been created-all with the goal of establishing a scholarship in Brad’s name to be presented to a Danvers High School graduate pursuing a degree in Music.
The concert will feature members of Ernie and the Automatics, 97 North, a reunion of Delp’s early band called the Monks, . The concert will take place on Friday July 13, 2007 at 7:00pm at the Danversport Yacht Club and will include a silent and live auction. Tickets are available available from the www.braddelp.org website. Donations to the fund may also be through the website.

Just 10 months till the end ... at least till the end of the Mayan calendar anyway. I wonder, did they mean to prophesize the end of the world, or was the December 21st planetary alignment just a convenient place to stop chiseling stone tablets on a really long calendar project? Some people think it is the same thing, so why take a chance? If I was making a bucket list, it would definitely include going out one more time to play some BOSTON shows - before time runs out! |
